THE DEVIL IN ME
YEAR: 2022
TYPE: Professional Project @ Supermassive Games
ROLE: Junior Designer
‘The Devil In Me’ is an interactive drama and survival horror game. The narrative follows five members of a documentary film crew who are invited to a replica of HH Holmes’ hotel on an island to film the next episode of their series. Along the way, they encounter traps placed throughout the hotel and eventually make an attempt to escape the island as soon as possible.
During my time on this project, I was a part of the ‘Exploration’ team. This meant that I was the one to set up exploration mechanics in certain levels. These included: vaulting, shimming, crawling, crouching, box pushing, jumping gaps and more. My main levels included ‘Forest’ and ‘Escape’. Although there were other levels I worked on, these were the two that I spent the majority of my time on. Below I have shared videos for both ‘Forest’ and ‘Escape’ to show some of the exploration mechanics I implemented into the levels.
FOREST
ESCAPE
A lot of my time on this project involved bug fixing. However, rather than fixing only exploration bugs, I had the pleasure of fixing game wide issues. This enabled me to develop my skills and learn how to set up interactions, AI, dialogue and more.
